Finding meaning and purpose

About Varetto Recovery

The Hands-On Operator: Alan

Varetto Recovery is co-founded by Alan and Cooper, and while the program’s unique philosophy was shaped by Cooper’s journey, Alan is the active operator and the consistent force ensuring the community is stable, supportive, and growth-oriented.

With a strong professional background in cybersecurity, IT, finance, and healthcare governance, Alan brings an essential focus on structure, reliability, and security to the Varetto environment. Alan knows that lasting recovery requires a solid foundation, and his hands-on role, from managing admissions and financial health to overseeing the physical space, is dedicated to creating that stability.

Alan’s commitment is driven by the understanding that we all need the space to make mistakes. His goal is simple: to help support residents on their journey and provide the safe, functional environment needed to successfully transition to the next stage of recovery. The atmosphere Alan works to maintain is defined by three words: supportive, growth-oriented, and comfortable.

The Philosophical Core: Cooper (Coop)

The unique approach at Varetto Recovery, focusing on progress over perfection, was born out of Coop’s personal and professional experience. Coop provides the program’s vision, offering a space where progress isn’t measured solely in abstinence but in connection, insight, perseverance, and finding meaning and purpose.

With over fifteen years in the behavioral health field, Coop recognized that traditional, abstinence-only models don’t serve everyone. Varetto addresses substance use meaningfully by focusing on harm reduction and supporting residents in leading a self-directed life. Coop’s own journey, which involved moving beyond an unhealthy relationship with alcohol through a personal harm reduction agreement, informs the program’s core belief: we meet people where they are.

Building a Self-Directed Life

Varetto Recovery is a couple-owned program, and Cooper and Alan’s combined experience offers a unique advantage. They understand the challenges of going through recovery personally (Coop) and the experience of supporting a loved one through it (Alan). They model how to maintain stability, build fun into a relationship, and balance both individual and relationship needs.

Under Alan’s operational guidance, the Varetto community focuses on developing the practical skills necessary for long-term success:

  • Structure & Routine: Developing daily habits that seamlessly continue after sober living.
  • Holistic Wellness: Promoting physical and mental health through a focus on wellness, including access to the home gym.

The Stories We Tell Ourselves

The name Varetto comes from the Latin word Varitas (truth). Varetto represents the truths we start to tell ourselves that combat the lies we built up in our addictions. Alan and Coop are here to provide the structure and vision to help residents discover their little truths and build a meaningful life around them.

Take a look inside.
